Dear Supporter,

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and having the proper support changes everything.

Remember that you are not alone. The Alzheimer Society is here as your first link to support. Through our many programs and services across Ontario we will help you take on the unique challenges of dementia that you may be facing.

Over the course of this month, we will share a beautiful 4-part series, where we visit Alicia and her family in their home to get a view of the grace, dignity, and support each of them shares with Alicia and one another.

Support changes everything. Discover more about our services today.

TEACH/CARERS

In partnership with the Reitman Centre, we are excited to offer two new skills-based and interactive groups designed for care partners of persons living with dementia. TEACH Program is an interactive group that runs for 4 weeks.  Care partners will benefit from learning about self-care, navigating the healthcare system, relationship changes and future planning.  CARERS Program is an 8-week interactive session, designed for care partners who would benefit from therapeutic problem solving to help manage the day-to-day care of the person living with dementia and improve their ability to cope with the demands of caregiving. Please contact our office for further information.

Seeking in-home recreation Volunteers!

Are you looking to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia in Simcoe County? The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is looking for reliable & confident volunteers for our In-Home Recreation program. Responsibilities include a 1.5 hour visit once per week with a program participant in their home. Volunteers receive training and work closely with our In-Home Recreation Coordinator.

Blaise, a current IHR volunteer has this to share about his experiences: “Thanks to my volunteering with the In-House Recreation Program, Wednesday is my favourite day of the week. I meet with my program participant on Wednesdays. When I was interviewed for the position, I was asked why I wanted to be involved in the program. What immediately came mind was the isolation and lack of stimulation that many who live with dementia experience on a daily basis. As I came to know my client, I saw that he was doing as much for me as I was for him. After many Wednesday mornings together, we have developed a deep respect for one another. I look forward to volunteering again during the second session.”

Join our amazing in-home recreation volunteer team! Contact our office to start the process!
