TEACH/CARERS
|

In partnership with the Reitman Centre, we are excited to offer two new skills-based and interactive groups designed for care partners of persons living with dementia. TEACH Program is an interactive group that runs for 4 weeks. Care partners will benefit from learning about self-care, navigating the healthcare system, relationship changes and future planning. CARERS Program is an 8-week interactive session, designed for care partners who would benefit from therapeutic problem solving to help manage the day-to-day care of the person living with dementia and improve their ability to cope with the demands of caregiving. Seeking in-home recreation Volunteers!
|

Are you looking to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia in Simcoe County? The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is looking for reliable & confident volunteers for our In-Home Recreation program. Responsibilities include a 1.5 hour visit once per week with a program participant in their home. Volunteers receive training and work closely with our In-Home Recreation Coordinator.
Blaise, a current IHR volunteer has this to share about his experiences: “Thanks to my volunteering with the In-House Recreation Program, Wednesday is my favourite day of the week. I meet with my program participant on Wednesdays. When I was interviewed for the position, I was asked why I wanted to be involved in the program. What immediately came mind was the isolation and lack of stimulation that many who live with dementia experience on a daily basis. As I came to know my client, I saw that he was doing as much for me as I was for him. After many Wednesday mornings together, we have developed a deep respect for one another. I look forward to volunteering again during the second session.”

Kelly will be working with Maryse Raymond as our dynamic duo planning and facilitating education and awareness programs for care partners, persons living with dementia, and other members of our community. Kelly comes to us after working as a Lifestyle Wellness Manager with Whispering Pines Retirement Home. Welcome Kelly! |

Through January, you are invited to join local businesses who are lighting it up blue to put a spotlight on Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
Be part of showing individuals and their care partners that your community is dementia friendly. Help to grow awareness and spark conversations about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. By lighting your home or business up blue you are letting almost 11,000 people across Simcoe County living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias know they are supported to live well and thrive in their community.
