My Dad who is living with Dementia played drums in bands for much of his life.
Our youngest Son (who is 14) plays snare drum in a Youth Pipe & Drums Band and on the drum kit.
Both of my Dads parents passed from Alzheimers and one of my favourite people ever . . my Uncle (Jimmy) battled lewy body dementia
What started as an idea with a goal of finding a few drummers to participate now has over 20 drummers from across UK, Canada, and Europe who will be playing on our live stream "Drumming for Dementia" as we raise awareness and money for the Alzheimers Society.
Drumming For Dementia will be held on Sunday November 13th, 2022 at 2pm EST,
There is lots of interesting research that points to music and drumming as being helpful to people with Alzheimers.
For Example, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America reports that ‘A person’s ability to engage in music, such as drumming and singing, remains intact late into the disease process because these activities do not require cognitive functioning for feelings of achievement.
We appreciate anyone who is able to donate time to play or donate money in our small effort here to raise awareness for Dementia research.
