These students expressed interest in doing something in the class for the Christmas season. As it is the season of giving, and our virtue this month is Charity, the class decided on the following initiative: Candy-Cane-O-Grams! They are collecting money by selling candy grams to their friends.
The students were asked to suggest what charities they would want to donate to. One of our students suggested that we donate to the Alzheimer's Society, as this student has lost family members to this disease in the past year. The children have also discussed how people suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease might especially be struggling now with the changes and restrictions due to COVID. As a result, we all agreed that this would be a very appropriate place to donate our money.
They are amazing!
They chose the name “ "The Purple Candy Canes" for a few reasons:
1) We are selling candy canes to raise money the Alzheimer Society
2) Our cohort colours (grade 6 classes) are red and blue- combined make purple
3) Purple is the colour of Alzheimer's
