CARERS Program
St. Clair West Services for Seniors

A 10- week program for family caregivers of people with early and mid-stage demenita. An Accredited program of the Sinai Health System Reitman Centre CARERS Program, this is a fully integrated, comprehensive dementia care program that introduces the innovative use of standardized patients - actors trained to simulate real-life situations - so that caregivers, guided by expert clinical coaches, will learn how to deal with common challenging situations.

Goals of the Program:

  • Enhance practical skills for caregivers
  • Improve caregivers' coping and problem-solving skills
  • Enhance caregivers' confidence in dealing with challenges
  • Improve caregivers' social interaction and social support

Outline of the Program:

Weeks 1 and 2 (April 26 and May 3 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm)) - Assess and Define the Problem
Weeks 3 to 6 (May 10, 17 , 24 and 31 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm) - Group Education
Weeks 7 to 10 (June 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm) - Skills Training using simulated situations with professional actors and expert coaching

There will be special programming for your family member with dementia on-site.
