Caregiver Support Groups

Caregiver support groups are an opportunity to connect with other caregivers, enhance your understanding of dementia, and develop practical strategies for supporting a person living with dementia. Groups are currently offered over zoom, and pre-registration with your First Link Counsellor or the group facilitator is required.

Education Programming


Focusing on Caregivers

Join us on Wednesday, September 22 at 10:00 - 11:30 am for a monthly education group focused on people caring for a loved one in Long Term Care or a Retirement Home. We explore various topics with guest speakers, and this month we will be joined by Christy, a First Link Counsellor at the ASPC, to talk about dementia & communication. Please pre-register with Emilia at 519-271-1910 ext. 25 or eklassen@alzheimerperthcounty.com.

Education Hour

Join us for this ongoing further education program, suitable for care partners as well as people living with dementia. For one hour at a time, we will explore different topics of interest in-depth. This month’s topic is The 8 A’s of Cognitive Decline where we will talk about what the major cognitive symptoms of dementia are, and how they may affect the experiences and behaviours of people living with dementia. Pre-registration is required. September 9th, 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Social Recreation Groups

We want to hear from you! Join us Wednesday, September 8 at 10:30 am to discuss recreation ideas for the fall and winter.

Activities are being regularly updated in order to help keep individuals living with dementia and their caregivers engaged through these times of social and physical distancing. Check out the many resources at your leisure.


Food for Thought Meal Delivery Program

A fresh, nutritious lunch is delivered to your doors by one of the Alzheimer Society staff or volunteers on the following Thursdays between 11:30-1:00 pm. The Alzheimer Society of Perth County has partnered with The Local Community Food Centre in Stratford, as well as other independent restaurants and catering businesses across Perth County.

To register for this FREE program, please contact Teresa at 519-271-1910 ext. 33 or tweicker@alzheimerperthcounty.com and she will confirm delivery date, time, and any food sensitivities.

September 9 - St. Mary’s (please register by Thursday, September 2)

September 23 - Tavistock, Shakespeare, Stratford (please register by Thursday, September 16)

October 7 - Thanksgiving Meal: all of Perth County (please register by Thursday, September 30)


VIRTUAL Minds in Motion®

This program incorporates physical activity and mental stimulation for people with early to mid-stages of dementia and their care partners. We continue to meet weekly online via Zoom for 1.5 hours. Each session offers gentle and easy-to-follow physical activities led by a certified senior fitness instructor and fun social activities focused on building personal skills.

Mondays: starts September 13th from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm.

Wednesdays: starts September 15th from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.

Virtual Paint Party

Tuesday, September 14 at 10:30 12:00 pm

Staying active and socializing are two vital parts of aging well. This 1.5-hour art program was created in partnership with Vanessa at Kind-Hearted Studio to foster creativity and socialization.

Virtual Paint Parties run through Zoom, and materials required to participate in this program will be delivered to the homes of registered clients prior to program start.

Crafty Corner

Are you a crafter or a crafter in training? All clients are welcome to join in the fun. All materials to participate in this program will be provided for you. This program can be completed on zoom or at home independently. Please register by Tuesday, September 21 by contacting Teresa at 519-271-1910 at ext. 33 or tweicker@alzheimerperthcounty.com.

Patrons Network Event Series

When: Tuesday, September 28 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (EST)

You are invited to attend the Patrons Network meeting with guest speaker Nneka Allen, Founder and Principal of the Empathy Agency.

Nneka has inspired philanthropy as a Fundraising Executive in the charitable sector for over 20 years. As the Principal and Founder of The Empathy Agency, she helps organizations deliver more fairly on their missions and visions by coaching teams to explore the impact identity has on culture and equity outcomes.

Nneka will discuss equity in relation to philanthropy as well as the equity training that the Alzheimer Society of Toronto has been doing.

Webinar: Enabling Ageing Well in Canada

When: Thursday, September 23 at 7:00 PM (EST)

In recognition of World Alzheimer's Day, the Gertrude Cetinski Lectureship for 2021 has partnered with the Halton Age-Friendly Network, the Hillsview Active Living Centre, and the Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk, Hamilton Halton, for the webinar Enabling Ageing Well in Canada.

Join Dr. Samir K. Sinha presenting recent updates on Ageing in Well in Canada. Topics covered will include what the pandemic has taught us about the state of Long-Term Care in Canada, and advice on how individuals can enable their own Healthy Ageing.

Education Series - Ageing your Way: Creating an Age-Inclusive Canada, Together

Join the Toronto Public Library (TPL) and CanAge for their upcoming Education Speaker Series session on September 21 at from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM called Using Technology to Fight Dementia.

This education session explores how technology can and does improve the lives of people living with dementia and their caregivers, engaging participants in an educational and inspiring dialogue about a fast-growing issue.

This session will be moderated by Laura Tamblyn Watts, CEO of CanAge (Canada’s National Seniors’ Advocacy Organization) and feature guest speaker Scott Russell, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
