We’ll start each week by awakening our senses through gentle seated movements to get our bodies warmed up. Then, we’ll introduce the week’s theme through poetry, art, and a short photo slideshow. We’ll also engage in a group chat and demonstrate weekly hands-on activities you can try at home.

Participants will be mailed program materials.

The different types of dementia: Lewy body dementia

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common forms of dementia, but did you know that there are many different types? Lewy body dementia, also known as Lewy body disease, is another form of dementia that is currently irreversible.

What is Lewy body dementia?

Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a form of dementia that is characterized by abnormal deposits of protein called alpha-synuclein that forms inside the brain’s nerve cells. These protein deposits, or Lewy bodies, affect the areas of the brain that involve thinking and movement. Dementia with Lewy bodies can also occur in the same person alongside Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease. When this happens, it is known as mixed dementia.

Regardless of the type of dementia that may impact you, the Alzheimer Society is here to offer the support and resources you need. Read more about Lewy body dementia, the symptoms, diagnosis, potential treatment options, and other resources here.
