IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's Simcoe County 2021

We never thought when we hosted a virtual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in 2020 that we would be doing the same thing a full year later! But here we are! We hope you are keeping well! To those who have already registered for the 2021 Walk - thank you! To past walkers, we would be grateful if you would walk with us again.

While we do receive funding from the provincial government through Ontario Health to support dementia programs and services, it is just not enough to meet the growing needs of our community. We rely on the funds raised through the Walk to keep our essential programs and services operating in every community we serve. We need your help.

From now until May 30th participants are encouraged to walk, climb or run 10,006 steps in support of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County and the 10,006 people living with dementia in our community. This challenge is perfect for the whole family. Everyone can get involved, either in-person within their household or virtually. Hit the trails, the treadmill, or anything else to take those steps! We thank you in advance for joining us this year to make it the biggest and best Walk yet!

Staffing Update

hats

We are excited to share that two members of our team will be “putting on new hats” within our organization. Dana Bessette, who joined the Alzheimer Society back in 2013 as a volunteer and then as a member of the Education Team, has assumed the role of Family Support Coordinator. She is supporting clients in the South Georgian Bay area, providing one-to-one supportive counselling and facilitating one of our virtual support groups.

This transition left an opening on the Education Team and we are pleased to announce that Taryl Bougie has moved into the position of Education Coordinator. Taryl joined our team in 2017 as our Minds in Motion Coordinator and brought that program to life! Moving into the education role, Taryl will be delivering and facilitating education and awareness across the region, with a particular focus on the Barrie & South Simcoe areas (once in-person services resume). Taryl will still be assisting with Minds in Motion programming until a new Coordinator is hired.

Hats off to Dana and Taryl!!

How to Leave a Lasting Legacy

New pic

We all want to leave our mark on this world to know that our life mattered.

What does it mean to leave a legacy? It means making a contribution for future generations. The most common type of legacy gift is a charitable bequest in a person’s Will. However, Canadians are realizing the benefits of giving gifts of registered assets, life insurance policies, annuities, and charitable remainder trusts.

Will your legacy support the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County?

For more information, please contact our Fund Development Officer, Sandy MacNevin, at fdo@alzheimersociety.ca .

Celebrate National Women’s Health Week

From May 9 to 15, celebrate National Women’s Health Week by making your physical and mental health a priority, especially during COVID-19. Here are some ways that you can protect your health and take care of yourself!

Get recommended screenings and preventive care

Protect your health by getting the care you need through regular check-ups. During COVID-19, some health services are now being done online or by phone. Talk to your healthcare provider to find out what screenings and exams you may need and when.

Prioritize mental health

Keep your mind and body healthy. It may be tough to maintain healthy behaviours and manage stress during COVID-19, but there are some steps you can take to cope with stress by taking care of your body, taking a break from listening to news stories, connecting with others, and recognizing when you may need more help.

Donate Now

People living with Alzheimer’s and dementia are especially vulnerable at this time, if you are able to, please consider supporting the essential services and programs that benefit this community.
