Tips for Care Partners: Dance, Dance, Dance!

Fun fact: Did you know that dancing is not only fun, but also a form of fitness for both your body and brain?

Many studies have found evidence of music stimulating the brain’s reward center, while dance activates its sensory and motor circuits. When we dance, we are strengthening the neural connections that help to improve memory. A benefit of dancing is that while you are feeling the physical effects of movement, your brain is subconsciously getting a workout too by stimulating the cognitive thought processes. Dancing can also lift your mood as well as ease stress and anxiety.

And you can create a dance floor anywhere and anytime while taking a stretching break from the computer, making dinner, or even brushing your teeth. No need for complicated dance routines get your feet moving to a favourite tune and feel the endorphins kick in. We bet that you have a tune in mind and started doing a jiggle while reading this. Happy dancing!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline to file individual income tax returns this year has been extended to June 1, instead of April 30. The Government of Canada is partnering with community organizations to provide free, virtual tax clinics. Seniors with a modest income and a simple tax situation may be able to have volunteers do their taxes by video conference or phone at no cost to them.

More information on available tax clinics can be found here.
