Being mindful of what we eat is not just important for our whole bodies, but also for our brains.

To help us stay mindful, we worked with our friend Chef Liz to put together a digital recipe book called Mindful Eating: Dementia-Friendly Recipes. In it, Chef Liz shares her story, and why mindful eating is so important for everyone, especially those living with dementia. DOWNLOAD NOW >>

Our New In-Home Recreation Program!


This new program provides in-home recreation visits to persons living with dementia in the community over a period of 12 weeks.  Each weekly visit involves facilitated activities that address social, physical, emotional, spiritual, cognitive or vocational domains of wellness based on the needs of the person living with dementia.  It also provides care partners with a little bit of respite at the same time. For people living with dementia, restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea are common sleep disturbances.

Welcome Hannah!


Hannah Kozmevski recently joined us as In-Home Recreation Coordinator. Prior to that Hannah was working for the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce in a similar role. Her family experiences with dementia have inspired her to pursue a career within the field of dementia care. Hannah has recently married and relocated to the Barrie area. She looks forward to making Barrie her new home and bringing this fun and exciting program to Simcoe County!


Move with us at Minds in Motion


Minds in Motion is an 8-week program that incorporates physical and mental stimulation for people with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, and their care partners. Introducing Jana!


We are pleased to introduce Jana Douglas as our new Minds in Motion Coordinator, effective June 28, 2022. Jana comes to us from the Victorian Order of Nurses where she has served as Recreation Therapist with the Adult Day Program in Orillia.
 
Jana was a Volunteer Day Program Assistant with CHATS and volunteers her time as Program Coordinator for Camp Quality Southern Ontario. Jana grew up with a family member with dementia, which influenced her volunteer and career choices. Jana lives in Blue Mountains and is eager to continue bringing the Minds in Motion program to locations across Simcoe County.

Thank You, Gateway Casino Innisfil!

Recently, GatewayGIVES, the corporate giving and community and engagement program from Gateway Casinos and Entertainment presented the employees at Gateway Casino Innisfil with the opportunity to nominate 12 local organizations to share a $24,000 donation.

The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County was very grateful to be chosen as one of the recipients of a $2,000 donation.
