Understanding Behaviours and Communication Strategies

Brief Description:

This workshop is for family caregivers providing care for a person with dementia.  The primary focus of the workshop is to provide caregivers with the necessary tools and education to respond to changes in communication and responsive behaviours. This workshop is a safe environment to express and discuss their concerns and learn from each other.

Objectives:

  • Understanding the progression of dementia and areas of the brain impacted
  • Recognize how dementia impacts communication and possess strategies that can be employed to compensate for the changes that are occuring
  • Investigate why responsive behavours occur and recognize how to tailor an appropriate intervention

This workshop is presented by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
